Why We're Here and What We Are

Okay, here's the scoop kids. This is a new thing that's an old thing. Most of those you'll see gracing these pages were previously seen in the pages of the Edge, that wonderfully produced fanzine from Collector's Edge! When I went back to school, I decided I wanted to get some practice in my chosen field. Then after talking things over with a few of my fellow fans, this was the result. So, we felt the way to start off this new project would be to tell you, the reader and potential poster, what we're all about.

Culture Shock

It should be no surprise to you that while comics may be a so-called "niche" market, the genres that it encompasses is not. From hard sci-fi to high fantasy, comics give their readers a window into many aspects of our culture's history, mythology, and yes even our probable future(s). One of the big things for us is to not be limited strictly to comics. We want our writers to be able feel comfortable writing about anything in the vast genre, from the latest movie that changed their life, to the novel they felt they want to push, to the latest monthly fare from Marvel and DC.

Panels and Borders Wants YOU!

... to contribute! What would a fanzine, even an on-line one, be without encouraging its readers to write! Many of the comic professionals today were the letterhacks and fanzine writers of yesterday! Plus you get to see your name in print! Bonus! We want columns, op-ed pieces, features, and letters! Don't like Marvel dropping the comics' code? Write in! Tell us! Have something to say about a column? Write a letter! Want to point out an issue, story, book, or movie you feel got a raw deal or missed in the shuffle? Write a paragraph or two to the "Did you miss?" featurette! Score an interview with a fave writer or artist! Send it in! Like to draw? Do a cover! Remember kids, it wouldn't be a true fanzine, electronic or not, without YOU, the fans, contributing! Heck, we've even got a section for you budding fiction writers! Like sprite comics? Make one of your own! As shown by our own Neal Bohl, the results can be hilarious! Do you draw? do a hand drawn strip, or send in some art you've got lying around, we'd love to put it up! Remember, you'll never be discovered if you don't get your name out there!

The bottom line

What we're trying to do is put the sense of community back into comics and such. Back twenty years ago or more, local comic clubs abounded across the country, most with a fanzine (or at least club notes) and we want to help bring that community back. If you like the sound of that, sound the gavel of your own area club and drop us an e-mail, sign our guestbook We'd love to hear from you.

With that said, any of the above ideas strike your fancy, then drop us an e-mail and tell us you're interested. Fandom has never been shy, so why start now?

See you in the funny pages!
