Calling All Cars!
posted by: Mike

Well... it's been a while, hasn't it?

Yep, I'm still alive. For now anyway, and wondering if anyone still reads this! Anywho, I'm hoping to do a bit more updating here in the near future. I'm not ready to announce why yet, but soon. Just note that it'll be exciting, fun, and probably help me create the community around this site I've always wanted.

Keep your peepers peeled folks! More details as things progress!

XRML becomes AML
posted by: Mike - Mar 15 2004

Well, I've decided that XRML will henceforth be known as AML: the Alchemical Mark-up Langauge. It seems to fit a bit better, no? Also, as part of my semester project for my Web Securities class, I'll design a nice site for the project to reside.

Rejoice, Yan Fanboy...

For they are more than meets the eye...

That's right fellow Transfans, for Transformers from Atari is on it's way. Although it's not the hypercool G1 game from Japan that there's tons of screenshots for, which I should really post at some point, because there's nothing like seeng Starscream in full 3D glory. The game we'll see however is based on the Armada/Energon cartoon... which I have yet to be able to stomache. To be fair, I have yet to take a look at the Energon incarnation so I don't know how it is, and my Armada Rant(tm) is for another post.

I have however been greatly enjoying Dreamwave Studio's G1 series. Quite faithful to all the old TF shows and the art is very suited to big honkin' robots! Booyaka!

... can make me like Opera. The browser, that is. As I type this, I'm trying out Opera. Wow. And I though IE was lacking in the standards compliance department, I was mistaken. CSS is horribly mutilated here... all squares and corners, Yuch. Though images are a bit crisper, I do gotta say. But really, when the whole frikking web is heading toward tableless layouts with CSS, how can you skimp there. Especially when they charge for it. Gah..

Eh, I don't know. Yes, Mozilla accepts donations and you can now buy offical support, and Netscape also charged for a hard copy, not to mention IE being totally free, all of this without imbedded ads. How can Opera justify that? The ad in the "free" version can be quite intrusive.

Anyway, I need to stop now... Opera's interface is giving me a headache... Ciao.

I sit here at work and I realize.... damn, I'm board..

Eh, don't get me wrong, I'm getting paid and I am doing stuff I enjoy, but y'know at times, when you just don't wanna work, you don't wanna work.

Kay, nuff belly-acheing.

There's an idea I've had for a few years now, and after talking with a classmate last night, I'm gonna start workin on it.

See, I've gt this theory. For years now, i've been working with Web tech: HTML, JavaScript, XHTML, XML, et.al., and I've had enough interest in physics to theorize that it might be possible to write a mark-up based langauge to program realty.

I'm not talking pennyante stuff here either. If you can factor in thngs like chemistry, biology and the other sciences with the known laws of physics, I beleive that this is a very real possibility to do. I'm not saying it'd be easy. Far from it. I know this is gonna be a pain in the ass. This is gonna take a long time to figure. In fact, though I am more than willing to go it alone, if any of you out there want to help, fire up that old mail client and drop me a line.
I know very well that this may not work, but it also may very well work, and if it does, the rewards for us and humanity will be beyond measure. Granted, I know such things can be used for evil, but like with physics, every action has an equal and opposite reaction, so the rest of us'll be there to kick their ass.

Sad News

Business first: There's two new sections on the sidebar. One for affiliate and partner sites, the other for portfolio sites of P&B members.

If you have any to put up, drop me a line.

Now, as you may have heard, comics legend Julius Schwartz passes away yesterday at the age of 88. He had been suffering many health problems of late, but it's very sad to see him go. His many accomplishments include the revitalization of the comics industry with the reintroduction of the Flash with Showcase #4. Without his efforts, the comics industry would be a very different place today, if it still existed at all. All us comics fans owe Julie a great deal, and I for one am proud I got the chance to talk to him at a Con a few years ago.

Here's to you Julie. We're gonna miss you, big guy.

Sign-up Problems

If any of you were having problems registering here, you can try again. It's been fixed.

Also, I recently started listening to Coast to Coast AM, which for those of you who don't know, is Art Bell's show on weekends and hosted by George Noory on weekdays. For the better part of two decades, Bell has been dealing with the paranormal and UFO phenomena. Recently, he's been touching on what he calls an Earth Change which has it's roots in, amoung many things, the upcoming end of the Mayan calender in 2012.

Many pointers have began appearing around the world. It's a very interesting subject, and one that has interested me since high school. I've done tons of research on this and I'm always interested in what others think about this. Do any of you have any thoughts on this? If you do, stop our new Earth Target: 2012 Forum and let me know...

Okay, discussion forums are back, post away.

In other news, apparently there was some nipplage at the Superbowl Sunday, and they didn't know it was gonna happen.

Sure... and Dick Cheney isn't a supervillain. Look folks, it was MTV, they think they need to up the ante all the time. You knew something like this was gonna happen after the Britteny/Modonna kiss thing. Speaking of which, I like a little girl-on-girl action as much as the next guy, but was anyone else just a bit creeped out by that?

Well, as promised, the comics are back up. If you haven't yet, read at least Justice Sprites. It's a true work of art.

I might have the message boards back up today too, though I'm not sure if I want to bring 'em back just yet. Don't get me wrong, I think haveing message boards are cool, but just like with the columns area, nobody posted.

If YOU want them back, let me know by either posting in the guestbook, or dropping me an e-mail.

We're baaaAAAAaack!!

Well, after a long and unplanned absence, were back. Sorta. My server decided to crash and not come back. With not much alternative, I found a nice hosting package, and here we are.

We're gonna go through some changes too. The first one you'll see is no splash page. Frankly, as fun as it is to be snarky like that, it's way to much upkeep. Now, you may say, "But Mike, what the hell else are you gonna do? Admit it, you're just a lazy slack-ass!!"

Well, yes, I am, but I'm also an employed slack-ass with a college degree. I'm setting up and administering an online store for a local company, and quite honestly, enjoying the challenge. I'm doing (for the most part) what I spent two years in school for, so if I don't wanna look everyday for a new picture or comic cover for a front page I only put up at the insistance of others, I'm not gonna do it. I'm also taking down the stories, columns, Power Company, and Final Five sections for lack of content.

I realized that this page is my column, and I had no one else writing for me. So why keep it up? Same for the stories and other sections. And as much as I liked the Power Company, there's no point in trying to advertise for it anymore. I still love the idea of having covers on display so that may be a section I put up at some point. The art and comics sections will stay and will be added to. I'm working very slowly on more Kyle & Ron strips, but I dobut you'll see anything new there for a while. I still wanna do that and I have fun with it, but I don't want to say "New every week!!" when I know I can't really deliver. That said, I do have a slight backlog, but I want to get a ways ahead before I began posting.

Now the changes and pruning will take a while, but will happen as I get the free time to do it. Honestly, I should be in bed now, but I'm typing this out as I watch the encore of the premiere of the new Dennis Miller show on CNBC. Part of the slowness, too, is I've never really worked with a hosting provider before, so I'm figureing that out as I go along.

But the bottom line is I want to keep this going. I feel that the new start here may be beneficial. If any of you are still here, thanks. If you want to contribute, you are more than welcome. just drop me an e-mail at mikeqe@wi.rr.com and let me know what you'd like to do. Any fellow webmasters want to start up an affiliate program or banner exchange let me know, I'll be more than happy to. Another thing I'm planning on is shelling out for some advertizing at both 8-bit Theatre and Bob & George.

Well, that's all from me today. You'll start to see more changes in the next few days for certain as I get the spare moments, and I will keep you appraised of what's going on.

Thanks
